The historic coastal village of Bamburgh, tucked below the magnificent Bamburgh Castle, is every inch the English village with its ancient church, manicured cricket green and dainty tearooms. Daubed in deep, earthy colours and adorned with rich fabrics and vibrant geometric prints and textiles, Windley is the ultimate mid-century modern pad. The sitting room, painted in teal and warmed by a Morsø cast iron woodburner, features a dining table for four, making it the perfect set-up for relaxed evenings at home. The retro design thread weaves throughout the property with the two bedrooms (one painted in striking rust red and the other in teal) featuring sleek furniture, angular lamps and bold prints that evoke all the organic, minimalist appeal of mid-century design.

The compact yet well-appointed kitchen leads out to dedicated off-street parking, a real bonus during peak tourist season. And, just beyond that, to the rear lies an enclosed, lawned garden with views of Bamburgh Castle that’s equally perfect for children, dogs, lazy picnics and sundowners. The garden also references the origins of Windley’s name: Windley Close was a meadow in Bamburgh purchased in 1546 by Knight Sir John Forster, the erstwhile Captain of Bamburgh Castle.

When not admiring Windley’s impeccable design details, you’ll find the white sands of Bamburgh Beach, the village amenities and, of course, the Castle within strolling distance.

Guarded by the iconic Bamburgh Castle which rises from its volcanic promontory with an almost mythic authority, this charming village combines the best of Northumbrian hospitality with a stretch of coastline with AONB status. Miles of stunning white sands stretch beneath the castle, from which you can take in views of the wildlife-rich Farne Islands and the fascinating Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Perfect for long dog walks, games, or quiet reflection, it's no wonder this is one of the most beloved beaches in the country.

You can enjoy fantastic fresh seafood at several restaurants in the village, perhaps during a relaxed brunch or with a takeaway from the Walled Garden Café, while the numerous tearooms and ice-cream shops are perfect for afternoon treats. There are also several great pubs for cosying up by the fire with a drink in the evening.

The whole area is bursting with things to do, dotted by a trail of castles and fortifications interspersed with pretty seaside villages all the way up and down the coast. For day trips, why not cross the causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to trace the legend of St Cuthbert, explore The Alnwick Garden, or take a boat trip from Seahouses to spot puffins and seals in the outstanding Farne Islands nature reserve and seabird sanctuary.
