The Fairway

Every once in a while, a holiday cottage pops up on the C&C radar that makes even our veteran property team’s eyes open wide. The Fairway is one of these, thanks to its remarkable setting on Northumberland’s Heritage Coast with stunning views over Bamburgh Lighthouse, beach and Castle.

One of a tiny cluster of houses at the end of a lane leading to the Bamburgh Castle Golf Club, The Fairway is literally paces from the lighthouse and celebrated white sand beaches. A 20-minute beach stroll will bring you from the homely cottage to Bamburgh Castle, the beachfront seat of the former Kings of Northumbria that’s widely regarded as one of England’s finest castles, and the bustling village’s various other attractions. These include cosy pubs and restaurants serving fresh local seafood as well as a smattering of independent shops and an RNLI Museum dedicated to Grace Darling, the daughter of a lighthouse keeper on the Farne Islands who become a national heroin following her audacious rescue of survivors from the shipwrecked Forfarshire in 1838.

Given its proximity to the Bamburgh Castle Golf Club, The Fairway is a hit with keen golfers who can also use the four-bedroom home as a comfortable base for exploring the nearby links courses of Seahouses, Goswick and Alnmouth. The dog-friendly holiday home is equally perfect for families thanks to its fabulous beachfront location, large enclosed garden, and shed packed with games and beach equipment including boogie boards, balls, buckets and spades, all of which guests are welcome to use.

The Fairway is spread entirely across the ground floor, making it ideal for guests travelling with small children and those with limited mobility. The spacious kitchen overlooks Bamburgh lighthouse and features a dining table for ten, the perfect setting for informal meals served with sunset sea views. Al fresco dining can be enjoyed in the sheltered rear garden, complete with views over the surrounding fields, dunes and rolling golf green. The cosy sitting room capitalises on The Fairway’s uninterrupted sea views and boasts a log burner for snuggling up in front of in the evenings.

The Fairway’s interiors echo its seaside location with rooms decorated in crisp whites and cheery blues and complemented by seabird, wave and lighthouse themed artwork and fabrics. The two double bedrooms both feature ensuite shower rooms, while the remaining twin bedrooms share a family bathroom with a bath and shower over.

While not enjoying the comforts of The Fairway or adventuring in Bamburgh, guests can visit the nearby fishing village of Seahouses (4 miles), from where charters leave daily for the Farne Islands, pop to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne (17 miles) or explore the castle and town of Alnwick (18 miles).
