A semi-detached barn conversion nestled near the charming village of Corbridge and with the historic town of Hexham nearby, The Cartshed is a dog-friendly escape with sweeping countryside views. Tastefully styled throughout, the interiors have been thoughtfully curated to fuse contemporary comfort with carefully selected antiques and repurposed vintage treasures.
Dating back to the 19th century, The Cartshed remains part of the historic Shawwell Farm, an area renowned for its natural springs, which once supplied fresh water to the village. Originally built to house the farm’s working carts, it's been lovingly restored into a sophisticated countryside retreat while retaining many of its original architectural features.
Flooded with natural light, the open-plan kitchen and living space is framed by three original stone archways. Now fitted with expansive glazing, you can enjoy the wonderful countryside views whilst basking in the warmth of the wood burner, or curling up on one of the elegant sofas or antique armchairs. Wonderfully compact with shaker cabinetry, sleek marble countertops and stylish brass fixtures, the kitchen is anything but short on style.
The ground floor features a welcoming snug with a cloud-like chaise sofa and ambient wood burner, the perfect nook to curl up with a good book or to enjoy a film with the whole family. To the rear of the property, you’ll also find a practical utility, WC and cloakroom – perfect for storing outdoor gear. Throughout the ground floor, underfloor heating wraps the space in warmth, keeping you cosy no matter what the weather decides to throw at you.
Two king size bedrooms and a comfortable twin room can be found upstairs, each boasting fabulous views over the surrounding countryside. The first bedroom is decorated in eye-catching botanical print wallpaper in an elegant duck egg blue, paired with crisp white linens and French inspired bedside tables. You’ll find a well-appointed en suite shower room next door, where coordinating wall tiles carry the botanical theme of the bedroom between the two spaces.
The second bedroom features soft blush toned walls, elegant floral fabrics and rich, antique furnishings whilst the twin room is home to a calming, neutral palette with classic bamboo bedframes. A light-filled family bathroom is shared with the second and third bedrooms where pink tiles, a delicate floral valance, free standing vanity and fluted washbasin add old world elegance.
On warmer days, the enclosed lawn is perfect for garden games, picnics or simply admiring the rolling countryside beyond. If you’d prefer to explore the surrounding region, the pretty village of Corbridge is located just under two miles away with an abundance of shops, cafes and eateries. History buffs will be well placed to explore the iconic Hadrian’s Wall, or the nearby town of Hexham.
