Old Mill Cottage

Old Mill Cottage is set in a peaceful location five miles from Kelso in idyllic rural surroundings, including its own mill pond. The cottage sits in a large, private garden, with a terrace, outside seating area and fabulous, uninterrupted views across the mill pond to open countryside beyond. The mill pond and river are home to a variety of wildlife, offering plenty of opportunities to see otters, deer, badgers, kingfishers, dippers and herons.

The well-presented, cosy interior comprises a large, open-plan ground floor with a kitchen and dining area, a seating area with a log burner and French doors to the terrace. The first floor accommodation comprises a double and twin bedroom and a bathroom. An additional single bed is available on request.

There are fabulous walks from the house, including along the pretty Kale Water, which runs close by. For more serious walking, the famous St Cuthbert's Way and Pennine Way routes run nearby, and there are wonderful walks to suit all abilities in the nearby Bowmont Forest and Harestanes Country Park. The area is also a cyclist's paradise with miles of quiet country roads and marked routes to explore, including the Border Loop and the 4 Abbeys Cycle Route.

The Kale Water which runs close to the cottage provides an opportunity for guests to try their hand at fishing. The owner is a keen fisher and it's happy to advise guests about fishing locally and will provide instruction and tackle for a small fee if required.
