Set between the charming fishing village of Craster and the historic market town of Alnwick, Littlehoughton Hall enjoys an enviable position on the Northumbrian coastline. Just a couple of miles away from the sea, it’s tucked away on a drive surrounded by herbaceous borders and leafy woodland. Dating to the eighteenth century, its tall sash windows, honey-coloured stone, and lanterns flanking the double front door reflect the warm period character to be discovered inside.
The entrance hall is airy and bright, its flagstone flooring leading into a cloakroom with ample storage for coats and muddy boots. Off the hall lies a spacious living room, bathed in sunlight through triple-aspect windows which overlook the gardens enveloping the house. This room is equally cosy in the winter months with a crackling log burner to warm you in the evenings. Next door, the formal dining room also boasts its own log burner and a large extendable table. Its dark blue walls complement the room’s wooden flooring, antique furniture, and oil paintings, creating the perfect setting for atmospheric evening meals.
These original floorboards continue into the country kitchen which lies at the end of the hall. An ideal casual gathering-place for your party, it’s kitted out with all you’ll need to cook with ease, including an electric range cooker and ceramic six burner hob set beneath the Hall’s original stone fireplace surround. The kitchen table is a relaxing spot for convivial breakfasts, set beside double doors which open into the sun-filled conservatory. Soothing and minimalist, the conservatory is a restful place to enjoy a little peace and quiet and enjoy the views across the gardens.
All three bedrooms lie on the second floor, up a central staircase lit by a large arched window. The master bedroom can be configured either as a super king or twin and is decorated in a calming palette of cream and powder blue, the window seats beneath its three expansive Georgian windows providing lovely spots to pause in the early morning. Next door, a large Jack and Jill bathroom can be accessed from both this bedroom and the hall.
The further two bedrooms can also both be configured as super kings or twins, the first decorated in blush pink tones and joined by antique furniture while the second features soft green walls and coral-coloured patterned fabrics. These rooms enjoy similarly stunning views across the landscape surrounding the house and are served by a family shower room.
Outside, the large lawned garden wraps around the front, side, and rear of the house and can be safely enclosed by the gates on the access drive. With an abundance of space, shady spots, and varied shrubs and flowers, it’s sure to tempt numerous family games and afternoon picnics in fine weather. Nearby, a short drive will take you to the grand rooms, gardens, and arboretum at the neighbouring Howick Hall, while days out at the equally stunning Alnwick Gardens and Castle and the dramatic beaches and ruins along the coast are also at your fingertips.
