Grove House

Situated right in the middle of the quaint village of Bamburgh, midway between the castle and St Aidan’s Church – the burial place of Victorian heroine Grace Darling – Grove House is the perfect base for a stay spent exploring this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Formerly two cottages which have been combined into one, it provides ample space for a gathering of family and friends enjoyed amidst wooden beams and warming log burners.

Enter the cottage through its rear enclosed patio, where garden furniture creates a quiet nook for unwinding on sunny mornings. The door leads into the bright kitchen which boasts dual-aspect windows and everything you’ll need to cook with ease. The dining room lies through the hallway and is the perfect space to enjoy atmospheric dinners and board games in the evening, illuminated by the glow of the log burner in the inglenook fireplace. A handy cloakroom with a WC is situated off this room, as is the cosy living room. With another log burner, plump sofas and woollen throws, it’s an exceptionally relaxing place to disappear into a good book or simply watch the world go by outside the window.

Due to the quirky combined nature of this period cottage, there are two staircases which lead up to the second floor lying in inner halls on either side of the dining room. The first bedroom is home to a double bed and enjoys a roomy ensuite bathroom next door, complete with a separate bath and shower. The family bathroom is situated along the hall and is fitted with another large bath with a shower overhead. The second bedroom lies beyond this on the other side of the cottage and features a super king size bed which can also be configured as twins. Both rooms enjoy views out of sash windows to the charming village street outside, with its red telephone box, historic lamps and village green.

Beyond relaxing in Grove House, there’s plenty to fill your days in Bamburgh. Take in the dramatic views from the ramparts of Bamburgh Castle, walk for miles along the pristine sandy beach, or enjoy a picnic of fresh lobster rolls in the dunes in the warmer months. For day trips, head a little further afield and discover the intriguing history of the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, just north of Bamburgh, or the popular village of Seahouses that lies just to the south, where regular boat trips set out to spot seals and puffins on the Farne Islands.
