Talk about a plum position. Greystead is located right in the heart of beautiful Bamburgh, and below its eponymous Norman castle. You’ll have views of both Bamburgh Castle and the sea from bedrooms, and be just a five-minute walk from white-sand Bamburgh Beach.
This coastal family home is thoughtfully laid out, full of luxurious amenities, spacious and airily designed with lots of coastal blues and whites. White shutters and beautiful interiors such as driftwood mirrors and pebble lamps enhance the seaside feel.
Arriving via the rear garden, you enter into the superbly designed kitchen area. Arranged around a large island and breakfast bar, a large Rangemaster cooker, American fridge/freezer and wine cooler offers the perfect, sociable holiday kitchen. A pantry cupboard which hides a microwave and extra fridge - a clever use of space. Factor in the ten-person dining table and there’s ample room for everyone to chat, cook or dine together.
Separated by a portable gate to keep dogs separate when required, the open-plan layout extends to encompass a sitting room with an eight-seat corner sofa, a further sofa, Smart TV and log-burning stove (initial supply of logs provided). Lovely for reading, the front window here gazes onto Bamburgh’s village green, where cricketers sometimes play.
The ground floor also comprises of a family games room, in which another large Smart TV , a PS4, a football table and numerous board games are ready for rainy days. Bi-folding doors open out onto the decking and rear garden. A utility room thoughtfully fitted with a shower – positioned by a side door is ideal for anyone returning from the beach with sandy feet, or for a quick warm-up after a surf or dip in the sea!
One of the four ensuite bedrooms is on the ground floor, complete with a king-sized bed and shower room. Up the impressive, original staircase beckons the super-king-sized master suite, sofa, Freesat TV and dressing area accompanying a Juliet balcony overlooking the rear garden and – to the left – Bamburgh Castle. There area two further first-floor ensuite bedrooms, both offering views of Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle – one king-sized with a shower room, the other featuring four single beds and large double vanity bathroom. The perfect “dorm style” bedroom.
To the front of the house, the lawn slopes away from a pretty porch while at the rear, in the larger enclosed garden you’ll find a raised wooden deck with a table, chairs, benches and a barbecue. Accessible directly through large bi-folding doors from the kitchen it’s a great spot for al fresco dinners or a post-beach cup of tea and a slice of cake.
For those interested in trying local fare, you can pick up tasty supplies from the charming village’s butchers, or from the super local deli The Pantry. Other businesses worth sniffing out include The Copper Kettle tea rooms, the Potted Lobster restaurant and a RNLI museum devoted to local hero Grace Darling. Bamburgh Castle sits majestically above on a 150m-high volcanic plinth; a unique golf course flanks it, and the mile-long beach begins across the dunes.
Further afield, days out might be spent on boat trips to the Farne Islands, travelling across the causeway to Lindisfarne or exploring market towns (see Location tab).
