Set within the steading of Brockmill Farm, which once served the now-ruined Haggerston Castle a mile to the north, Granary View is dreamily convenient in various ways.
First is the location: this semi-detached cottage lies just a short drive or cycle ride from the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and its vanishing causeway. Also within easy reach are golden-sand beaches such as Cheswick Sands, while bewitching Bamburgh Castle soars on its crag less than ten miles to the south. The A1 passes nearby, as well, making it easy to explore more of Northumberland’s coast.
Then there’s the set-up. You’ll find three bedrooms — all of which can be twin-bedded on request, suiting children or friends — and three en-suite bathrooms, including one especially-airy pair on the ground floor to ensure that anyone of limited mobility can stay. Two dogs are also welcome.
Once a row of mill workers' cottages, the original stone building has been given a stylish refurbishment bringing the addition of black-frame windows, open-plan interiors and quality fabrics. Space abounds, causing a faintly minimalist feel.
You’ll enter into the superbly-equipped kitchen, where grey-green cabinetry surrounds an extendable dining table. This flows into the sitting room and its two chunky, forest-green sofas, its 55-inch Smart TV and its inglenook log burner. The latter, in league with luxurious underfloor heating throughout this floor, means you’ll be perfectly cosy in here after dark; full-length windows, meanwhile, provide uplifting brightness by day.
Patio doors lead to an outdoor dining table and the south-facing lawned garden about which kids might tear. A charcoal barbecue and outdoor lighting further enable al-fresco meals in the faintly salty air. Although Mill Cottage is next door, fencing divides the properties to ensure total privacy.
Sprawling snugly in the eaves, both upstairs bedrooms feature a series of Velux windows, additional seating and gorgeously-tiled en-suites. One of those includes a soaking tub, accompanying the superb showers found in all three bathrooms.
