Description

Eslington Lodge’s bright farmhouse-style kitchen sets a comfy tone. Expansive and well-equipped, the kitchen contains an oil-powered Aga for cooking inside a feature inglenook, whilst the casual pine table seats six and is perfect for relaxed breakfasts.

The kitchen leads into a dining area where French doors lead to the large conservatory with views out onto an enclosed garden, a perfect spot for watching the estate’s myriad birdlife.

The sitting room has three comfortable sofas with a Smart TV to relax and unwind after a long day of Northumberland sight-seeing. There is a cosy electric stove fire for those colder days.

As for the sleeping quarters, the elegant master bedroom has French doors with ramp access, alongside an en-suite bathroom containing a walk-in shower. There is a twin-bedded en-suite bedroom (available as a superking bedroom on request) and two further single bedrooms which share a shower room.

Eslington Lodge is ideal for families or groups of friends keen on a peaceful hideaway with easy access to all of Northumberland. This is a single-storey property and the garden is ramp-accessed, rendering Eslington Lodge suitable for guests of limited mobility.

Wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy access to the three dedicated hides in the estate’s extensive grounds, each kitted out with a table and chairs, binoculars and bird books. Settle in and watch the resident red squirrels, which are returning to the estate thanks to the current red squirrel project, munching away at the feeding stations. In addition to these playful characters, look forward to spotting kingfishers, herons, hedgehogs and deer.

From this slice of vintage countryside between the coast and Cheviot Hills, you can just as easily explore the rugged beauty of the undulating Northumberland National Park as make seaside daytrips. There is plenty to explore including the Ingram Valley and Simonside Hills which are close by for hikes to waterfalls. Friendly Northumbrian villages festoon the immediate area, and rounds of golf, National Trust properties or shorter walks are readily available.

A trip to the coast to explore Northumberland’s beautiful beaches such as Alnmouth, Holy Island or Bamburgh is also very tempting in all seasons. Rothbury, just up the River Coquet, offers lovely little boutiques and inns, while Alnwick is famous for another majestic castle used in the Harry Potter films.

Please note that we also offer Eslington East Wing, a Grade II listed Georgian country house which is on the same site as Eslington Lodge. If availability allows, groups of up to 16 can rent both homes together.

Location

Situated in the beautiful countryside of north Northumberland, the medieval market town of Alnwick lies within easy reach of the coast and is home to world-class visitor attractions.

A stronghold of Northern power in the Middle Ages, the magnificent Alnwick Castle has more recently served as a filming location for Harry Potter. Alongside this lies The Alnwick Garden with its famous cherry blossom trees, collection of poisonous plants and Grand Cascade. The twisting cobbled streets of the town boast an eclectic collection of independent shops including Barter Books, a famous second-hand bookshop with a miniature train running atop its bookcases, plus there’s a market every Saturday and a Farmers' Market on the last Friday of every month.

Set within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the sea is just a short drive away, as are the dramatic castle and beach at Bamburgh, the charming fishing village of Craster, and the mystical Holy Island of Lindisfarne across the causeway. A little further inland, you’ll find endless scenic walks in the Cheviot and Simonside Hills and along Hadrian’s Wall, as well as the pretty village of Glanton and the picturesque Ingram Valley.
