The sitting room brings a more sophisticated twist to the coastal vibe with modern abstract prints, fresh ticking fabrics by Ian Mankin, and art prints by Calder and Victor Pasmore. Colourful kilim rugs and geometric patterns are balanced with a heritage scheme of cool greys and wood panelling, not forgetting a toasty wood burner of course.

The prints in the inner hall give a lovely nod to the cottage’s long association with farm life, leading into a bright kitchen with lively colour accents. Here you can take advantage of the pastoral views towards the sea, bringing an enjoyable dimension to the washing-up!

In the bedroom, the original Ercol chair is a statement piece with bold geometric fabric by David Hicks and a bespoke cast metal bed, softened with the gentle colour of Dimity.

Outdoors, a raised wooden deck offers a space for dining and enjoying the sea views down to Embleton Bay, leading onto a wildlife-friendly grass, flower and shrub garden, which is shared with adjoining Turner Cottage.

A private glazed reading room, also known as the Huff House, is the perfect spot for lazy afternoons with a good book and enjoying the truly unique coastal vista. Or come nightfall, delight in the pristine night skies and immerse yourself in a spot of evening stargazing beneath some of the darkest skies in the country.

Calder Cottage is a lovely romantic escape for two, though if you’re looking to holiday together with another couple it’s ideal for a joint getaway when booked in conjunction with adjoining Turner Cottage.
