Beeswing House, a grand former stable block named after an illustrious former resident - a racing wonder-filly bred by William Orde of Nunnykirk in 1833, winning a staggering 51 of her 64 races - has been painstakingly remodelled while preserving the architectural features, resulting in bags of space and wow-factor by the bucket.

Decorated with sumptuous furnishings and fabrics, cosy tweeds in calming colours and family antiques, Beeswing House has plenty of creature comforts, including underfloor heating and superfast Wi-Fi.

Flooded with light, courtesy of the arched windows and lofty ceilings, the cavernous open-plan living and dining area is complemented by a large kitchen with dining table and island unit, a snug with cosy electric stove, 40” TV, Freeview and DVDs, and two of the four double bedrooms and a spacious family bathroom on the ground floor. Upstairs you’ll find two en suite bedrooms and a mezzanine study area halfway up the stairs, furnished with armchair and desk.

Outside there are two distinct spaces, a courtyard with the original well and a lawned garden with alfresco dining terrace. The adjacent games barn is set up for ping pong and badminton – or even indoor football, a very handy space for energetic youngsters should the weather be inclement.

Located along the drive to Nunnykirk Hall, Beeswing House enjoys a peaceful setting between the rural Northumberland villages of Wallington and Cragside, with nearby Rothbury home to an excellent delicatessen and butcher. There are fantastic walks in and around the area from leisurely riverside and forest ambles to more challenging walking routes exploring the raw natural beauty of the Northumberland National Park. The area is home to several foodie festivals and events, while Cragside, a nearby stately home with a busy events schedule has many family friendly activities to enjoy.

Location

The surrounding area features several lovely historic sites, walks and traditional market towns. Located on the meandering River Coquet, Rothbury is built from mellow sandstone and home to a vibrant high street with a variety of independent shops, including a good delicatessen, butcher and baker. Nearby Morpeth also has a wide variety of shops, cafés and restaurants and is an excellent gateway to the region, lying on the fast train line between London and Edinburgh.

History enthusiasts will find plenty to keep them occupied in the area, such as the National Trust properties of Wallington Hall and Cragside, the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity. This marvel of the Victorian Gothic Revival, surrounded by beautiful gardens and mature trees, showcases the innovative spirit of Lord Armstrong and is the perfect spot for a day trip.

The landscape is also sure to delight wildlife-spotters and walkers. The Simonside Hills, the Cheviot Hills, the Northumberland National Park, Kielder Water and Hadrian’s Wall are all within easy reach, providing ample opportunities for hiking and cycling. If you’d like to experience some sea air, the historic fishing villages and wide sandy beaches of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including Alnmouth, Craster, Warkworth and Bamburgh are also an easy drive away.
